Sustainability
For Wellemart sustainability is not spin but has been a lifelong commitment for the past 50 years for its founder Denis McCarthy shown pictured below with permaculture co-creator Bill Mollison in 1978. Also shown is the Permaculture Institute of Australia's first ever Permaculture Community Service Award given to Denis in 1985. He is the founding director of The Permaculture Institute of WA, of Permaculture Consultancy WA & and was instrumental in setting up the Permaculture Association of WA in the early 80s.

Denis is the founding publisher of Whole Life Times (WLT), a free subscription (since 1982) journal of Holistic Health and Sustainable Living. Many of the collections in the Wellemart shops are regular sections in the WLT e-magazine. In addition there is a regular Leaders in Sustainability feature article in each free quarterly issue (free to subscribers, on sale to others).
He is a member of the International Society of Sustainability Professionals, the world's leading network of sustainability professionals and a host of the videocaste & podcast SED Talks on Sustainability, Environment & Development.
Denis is founding director of The Gaiarcadia Academy, which hosts the Gaiarcadia Summit at which many sustainability leaders speak. For example at the 2024 Gaiarcadia Summit there was a two-hour session titled "Sustainable Cities and Eco Villages" and another two-hour session titled "Regenerative Agriculture: Retrofitting Permaculture". David Holmgrem (pictured below harvesting greens from Denis's garden) the co-creator of permaculture was a speaker on both of those sessions.

Recordings of the 10 Gaiarcadia Summit sessions, with over 45 outstanding world leaders in global transformation and earth renewal, are available on YouTube and the Gaiarcadia Patreon websites. Special Editions of Whole Life Times will feature articles based on each of the 10 sessions and this will be made available in both the Australian and the International Wellemart shops.
We try to select products for Wellemart that are sustainably produced & recyclable. We also support companies committed to Earth's renewal & flourishing. Denis has adapted the Norwegian Worker's Union 1930's motto to now read "Good work and welfare for all on Earth". Good work, naturally, is work that sustains the Earth's biosphere and ecosystems.
